Learn with Dad

The Learn with Dad project got off to a great start! Last week over 30 Dads from Ben Jonson, Cayley, Halley and Redlands school met to talk about the project, and share their views on a Dad's role in children's learning.

This week Dads and their children visited the Museum of Childhood. Dads and children took a tour of the Museum, and made shadow puppets.

Next week we are going to the Museum of London (Docklands).

Stepney Partnership trip to the Tower of London

(written by Shanaz - staff member at Redlands School)

On Saturday the 31st of October, over 60 parents and children from Stepney Partnership schools visited the Tower of London.

The day started off with everyone gathering at Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College. Families created their own masks and played 'human bingo' where families were required to ask each other lots of questions in order to win prizes. The activity was a great way for everyone to get to know each other.

We made our way to the Tower of London. Getting there was very simple, as we only needed to get on the DLR from Limehouse to Tower Gateway. Once we arrived there, we were spoilt for choice as there were so many things to see! We saw the famous Crown Jewels that various Kings and Queens wore many centuries ago! They looked absolutely stunning, but unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take any pictures of the crowns. We also saw the big canons that were used to fight off the enemies. We even had some of the children being knighted by a King in the Tower during a show that was held for us visitors. How cool is that?

Overall, the trip to the Tower of London was great fun, as we all enjoyed ourselves. It was the perfect end to a good half-term break!

Dads and children do the Science Museum!

Wow - what a day! About 25 Dads and their Year 1/Reception children headed off to the Science Museum on the Wednesday of half-term. The group included 11 Redlands families, 9 Cayley families and 4 Halley families.

The day kicked off with a fun puppet show and lunch at Stepney Green Maths, Computing and Science College. Next, we all squeezed on the tube from Stepney Green to South Kensington, and then walked over to the Science Museum. Every last ounce of stamina was needed by the Dads and children!

Thanks to all of the Dads who made it such an enjoyable day. Later in November - the Stepney Partnership starts the 'Learning with Dads' sessions on Tuesday mornings.
